SEOPress isn't the most famous WordPress SEO plugin. It doesn't have Yoast's market dominance or Rank Math's aggressive marketing.
But it has something the bigger players often lack: a clean interface, fair pricing, and an independent company that isn't trying to upsell you at every click.
We've worked with SEOPress on client sites. Here's our honest assessment of who it's for, what it does well, and where it falls short.
What Makes SEOPress Different

No Ads in the Dashboard
Open Yoast and you'll see promotions for Yoast Premium, Yoast Academy, and various upsells. Rank Math does the same with its Pro features.
SEOPress, even in the free version, shows no ads in your WordPress dashboard. The settings screens are clean. No promotional banners. No "upgrade to unlock" teasers everywhere you click.
This sounds minor until you live with it. A clean dashboard that focuses on settings rather than selling is surprisingly refreshing.
Independent Company
SEOPress is developed by a French company that focuses entirely on this plugin. It's not part of a large hosting conglomerate (like Yoast/Newfold) or a sprawling plugin empire (like AIOSEO/Awesome Motive).
Whether this matters depends on your values. Some people prefer supporting independent developers. Others prioritize the stability of larger organizations. Neither is wrong.
But independent status does mean SEOPress is less likely to be acquired and changed, or to have its development direction dictated by a parent company's broader strategy.
Competitive Pricing
SEOPress Free: Genuinely complete for basic needs. Includes meta tags, sitemaps, social sharing, content analysis, and Google Analytics integration. With over 300,000 active installations, it's established despite being less famous than the giants.
SEOPress Pro (tiered pricing as of August 2025):
- $49/year (1 site)
- $59/year (5 sites)
- $149/year (unlimited sites)
Even at the unlimited tier, $149/year beats Yoast Premium at ~$119/year per site if you have more than one site. For agencies or anyone managing multiple properties, SEOPress Pro remains significantly more affordable than the per-site alternatives.
Lightweight Performance
SEOPress is lighter than Yoast or Rank Math. Not as minimal as The SEO Framework, but noticeably leaner than the feature-heavy competitors.
If you're optimizing for performance without going fully minimal, SEOPress hits a reasonable middle ground.
Core Features
Meta Tags and Titles
The fundamentals work as expected. You get fields for SEO titles, meta descriptions, and the ability to set patterns for automatic generation.
The interface is clean and intuitive. Nothing groundbreaking, but nothing frustrating either.
Content Analysis
SEOPress includes content analysis similar to Yoast's approach: it checks for keyword presence, length, readability, and other factors.
The analysis is less prominent than Yoast's traffic lights but still provides useful guidance. You see suggestions without feeling nagged.
Schema Markup
SEOPress includes schema for articles, local businesses, products, and other common types. Pro adds more advanced schemas and automation.
The schema builder is functional without being overwhelming. It handles common use cases without requiring expertise.
Sitemaps
XML and HTML sitemaps work correctly. Nothing remarkable, but sitemaps are a commodity feature at this point.
Google Analytics Integration
The free version includes basic Google Analytics integration. You can view some analytics data without leaving WordPress.
Not as deep as dedicated analytics plugins, but convenient for quick checks.
Redirects and 404 Monitoring
SEOPress Pro includes redirect management and 404 monitoring. These are premium features in Yoast but included in SEOPress's affordable Pro tier.
For sites that need redirect handling, this is genuine value.
White Label Option
SEOPress Pro can be white-labeled, removing SEOPress branding entirely. For agencies presenting to clients, this is useful.
Yoast doesn't offer this. Rank Math does in higher tiers. SEOPress includes it in the base Pro package.
Who SEOPress Is For

Agencies Managing Multiple Sites
The unlimited site license at $149/year is SEOPress's strongest value proposition. If you manage 10 sites, you're paying $149 total instead of ~$1,190 for Yoast Premium.
Add white-label capability, and SEOPress is compelling for agencies.
Users Who Value Clean Interfaces
If Yoast's clutter or Rank Math's feature density bothers you, SEOPress offers a cleaner experience. It has the features you need without the noise you don't.
Budget-Conscious Organizations
For organizations that want Pro features (redirects, advanced schema, analytics) without premium pricing, SEOPress delivers more value per dollar than most alternatives.
Those Who Want to Support Independent Developers
If you prefer to support smaller, focused companies over large conglomerates, SEOPress is the independent option in a market increasingly dominated by big players.
Who SEOPress Is Not For
Those Who Need Maximum Ecosystem Support
Yoast has the most extensive documentation, tutorials, and third-party resources. When you have a problem, someone has probably solved it and written about it.
SEOPress has smaller community resources. You might find fewer tutorials, fewer forum threads, and fewer integration guides.
Organizations Wanting Name Recognition
If your stakeholders or clients have heard of Yoast and nothing else, explaining why you're using a different plugin creates friction.
SEOPress's relative obscurity can be a liability in contexts where familiarity matters.
Those Who Need Deep Integrations
Some other WordPress plugins specifically integrate with Yoast or Rank Math. Theme developers often test compatibility with the market leaders first.
SEOPress works with most themes and plugins, but you're more likely to encounter integration gaps than with Yoast.
Compared to the Alternatives
SEOPress vs Yoast
In the SEOPress vs Yoast comparison, SEOPress is cleaner, cheaper, and lighter. Yoast has more name recognition, documentation, and integration support.
SEOPress Pro at $149/year unlimited beats Yoast Premium at ~$119/year per site after just two sites. If pricing matters and you're managing multiple properties, SEOPress wins on value.
vs. Rank Math
Rank Math's free version has more features than SEOPress's free version. But SEOPress's interface is cleaner and less overwhelming.
Both have affordable unlimited licensing at the Pro level. Rank Math Pro (~$108/year for unlimited personal sites) and SEOPress Pro ($149/year unlimited) are comparable values, though Rank Math is slightly cheaper if you own all the sites yourself.
Choose based on whether you prefer Rank Math's feature density or SEOPress's cleaner approach.
vs. All in One SEO
Both are capable alternatives to Yoast. AIOSEO has stronger WooCommerce integration in its free tier. SEOPress has cleaner interfaces and simpler pricing.
AIOSEO is backed by a larger company (Awesome Motive) with more resources. SEOPress is independent with leaner support infrastructure.
vs. The SEO Framework
The SEO Framework is lighter and more minimal. SEOPress offers more features while staying relatively lean.
If you want the absolute minimum plugin footprint, choose The SEO Framework. If you want a balance of features and performance, SEOPress is a reasonable middle ground.
The Things We'd Improve
Discoverability
Most people don't know SEOPress exists. The plugin doesn't market as aggressively as competitors, which keeps the interface clean but limits awareness.
If you're reading this review, you're already better informed than most WordPress users who default to Yoast simply because they've heard of it.
Documentation Depth
SEOPress documentation is adequate but not extensive. For common tasks, you'll find what you need. For edge cases, you might be on your own.
The smaller community means fewer third-party tutorials and guides compared to Yoast.
Support Response Times
We've seen reports of slower support response compared to larger competitors. An independent company has fewer support staff.
If you need rapid support for business-critical issues, factor this into your decision.
Is SEOPress Good?
Yes. SEOPress is a capable, well-maintained plugin that handles WordPress SEO fundamentals correctly. It provides meta tag editing, sitemaps, schema markup, and content analysis without the interface clutter of larger competitors.
Is it better than Yoast or Rank Math? Not in terms of SEO results. No plugin will rank your site better than another. But SEOPress may be a better fit for your workflow if you value clean interfaces and affordable pricing.
Our Recommendation
SEOPress is a solid plugin that does what it promises without fuss. The clean interface, fair pricing, and independent development are genuine differentiators.
We don't use it as our default (we've standardized on Yoast for over 10 years for familiarity reasons), but we've worked with it on client sites and have no complaints. When clients come to us with SEOPress already installed, we work with it. When an SEO consultant prefers it, we'll install and configure it without hesitation.
Here's what matters more than which plugin you choose: no SEO plugin will rank your site better than another. We've never come across one that has any real, direct effect on search engine positioning. The plugin provides the infrastructure to implement a strategy. SEOPress provides that infrastructure cleanly and affordably.
Consider SEOPress if:
- You manage multiple sites and want affordable Pro features
- Clean interfaces matter more to you than feature count
- You prefer supporting independent developers
- You want white-label capability for agency work
Stick with Yoast or Rank Math if:
- You need maximum documentation and community support
- Integration compatibility with other plugins is critical
- Stakeholders expect a name-brand SEO plugin
- You don't have strong feelings about dashboard clutter
The bottom line: SEOPress won't rank your site better than Yoast or Rank Math. None of them affects rankings differently. But it might fit your workflow better, cost less, and stay out of your way more effectively.
For many organizations, that's enough.
